Northstar Clean Technologies - Asphalt Shingle Recycling
Northstar Clean Technologies (Northstar) has developed a proprietary, patented technology to process end-of-life asphalt shingles and extract liquid asphalt for use in new hot mix asphalt, shingle manufacturing, and asphalt flat roof systems, as well as aggregate and fiber for use in construction products and other industrial applications.
The end-of-life shingles would otherwise be destined for overcrowded landfills. Keeping end-of-life asphalt shingles from becoming waste materials and reducing the use of virgin materials contributes to a reduction in overall energy consumption in the asphalt manufacturing process.

Calgary Commercial Facility
Northstar's first commercial facility in Calgary has been fully constructed and commissioned and is increasing production to full commercial volumes. The Calgary plant is expected to process over 40,000 tonnes per year of waste shingles. Liquid asphalt sales are supported by a long-term, 100% offtake agreement with McAsphalt Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of Colas Canada (a subsidiary of Bouygues S.A.).
Facilities Under Development: Hamilton and Baltimore
Northstar's second and third commercial facilities are currently planned for Hamilton and Baltimore.
In Baltimore, Northstar has signed a non-binding agreement to secure a long-term lease. TAMKO, one of Northstar’s strategic partners, has committed to purchasing the majority of asphalt product from Northstar's first four U.S. facilities. Northstar also announced that it has received an LOI from Export Development Canada to potentially fund up to four facilities in the U.S. Northstar has initiated permitting activities and expects the facility to begin operations in the second half of 2027.
In Hamilton, Northstar has a non-binding LOI for a site and has commenced the permitting process. The company has also secured a non-binding LOI with YORK1 for the future supply of waste shingles.
